Privacy and cookies

This is my personal photography website. I’m Mike Sharp, and I’m responsible for any personal information it collects. If you have a question about this page or want to use any of the rights below, get in touch through the contact page.

What this site collects

  • Visits (only if you accept analytics cookies). I use Google Analytics 4 to count visitors and see which galleries and pages are viewed. It records things like the pages you view, roughly where you are (town or region, not your exact location), the type of device and browser you use, and how you arrived at the site. Google does not store your full IP address. I have switched off Google signals and ad personalisation, so this data is not used for advertising. Google processes it on my behalf and it may be transferred to the United States, which is covered by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Analytics data is deleted after 2 months.
  • Messages you send me. The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. It is delivered to my inbox by Web3Forms, a form-to-email service. I use these details only to reply to you and I delete messages once they are no longer needed.
  • Server logs. Like almost every website, my web host keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.

I don’t sell or share your information with anyone else, and I don’t use it for marketing.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Google Analytics cookies are only set after you click “Accept analytics cookies”. If you reject them, or don’t choose, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page — if you withdraw consent, the analytics cookies are deleted.

  • mesharp_consent — remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so you aren’t asked on every page. Strictly necessary. Kept for 6 months.
  • _ga — Google Analytics: tells visits from different browsers apart. Only with your consent. Kept for up to 13 months.
  • _ga_FZEPVZWE17 — Google Analytics: keeps track of the current visit. Only with your consent. Kept for up to 13 months.
  • mesharp_admin — only set for me when I log in to manage the site. Not set for visitors. Deleted when the browser closes.

The fonts and everything else on this site are served from my own web host, so nothing is requested from Google or other third parties unless you accept analytics cookies. Links to Instagram and Etsy take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or object to how I use it. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
